I just recently found out that there was even such a thing as a solar powered backpack. These things allow you to charge your mobile devices, like smart phones, laptops and digital tablets anywhere you are. That is amazing to me.
Okay, you can say I'm a bit behind on this, but I had no idea these things existed. I actually stumbled across them while looking for something else. Once I found them I had to know more about them so I started doing some research on them.
I wanted to know how they worked, which were the best ones, how many different kinds there were and how much they cost?

In this post you will get the benefit of my research and I will show the ones I thought was the most worthwhile.
If you would rather skip the post and see for yourself which ones you would like, here is a link to some you can check out.

So What Is A Solar Power Backpack Really Good for?
What is a solar power backpack good for? That is a good question. To answer it just put yourself in a situation where you there's no electrical outlets, you absolutely need to use one or more of your mobile devices and it or they need to be charged. What are you going to do?
The backpack has become one of the most popular accessories around. I mean you see them everywhere and everybody seems to have one. And they are used to carry things like cell phones, MP3 players, PDAs and other mobile electronic devices. What better place to have a charge for those devices.
I mean just think about it, if you're hiking or camping there's no worry about keeping your cell phone and GPS device charged. Your kids can't use the excuse of their cell phone not being charged as the reason they couldn't call you or you couldn't reach them after school.
If there is an electric outage that lasts for a long time you will still be able to work on your laptop or have your cell phone available in case of an emergency.
There are just so many situations where solar charging backpack can come in handy.

Lets Look At Some Of These Backpacks
Ok, lets take a look at some of these solar panel backpacks. These are just some of the ones that I thought was worth mentioning.
Eclipse Camo Solar Backpack
Besides being able to charge your devices this backpack has several organizer pockets to carry your smart phones, iPods, MP3 players and other stuff. It has a rear padded laptop cavity and in the front there's an accessory pouch that has pen holders, CD holders, and a removable clip for USB memory sticks or keys.
It has the popular camo design, which would actually make it good for camping or hiking.
These and other features makes this a pretty nice bag overall.
SolarGoPack Solar Powered Backpack
This bag actually comes in a few different colors. It doesn't just look good, but it's waterproof and durable. It also has a 2 liter water bladder that has a hose that can reach your mouth. That's pretty darn cool if you ask me.
Voltaic Systems Array Solar Charger Backpack
This bag has a lot higher price tag than the other two, but has a much higher battery wattage. The solar pocket comes off and can actually be attached to other bags. It has a padded laptop sleeve, a phone pouch and lots of other pockets.
It seems like a really nice bag, but it all depends on if you want to pay that high a price for one.
This isn't the model that I showcase here, but it is similar.

Here's How A Solar Powered Backpack Works
It is no secret that solar power is being pushed as one of the replacement power sources for our traditional power sources.
First of all as we all know we get solar power from the sun. We do this by using solar panels made up of PV (photovoltaic) cells grouped together to make a panel. These panels absorb light from the sun and turns it into electricity. Now this electricity can be used immediately or stored in a battery for later use.
Okay, so a solar charger backpack is equipped with solar panels that are attached to the outside of the pack so they can absorb the sun's rays. These panels are lightweight and waterproof. The backpack also has a lithium-ion battery pack inside in order to store the electricity.
A ten hour charge of the battery pack will produce fifty-five hours of electricity.
The video below has some really good info about these bags.

Conclusion
I really like the idea of these of a solar powered backpack. As I said earlier there are a lot of situations in which one of these babies would come in handy. As a matter of fact I was in one several months ago.
If you have kids I would think that one of these would give you a better since of security knowing that their cell phone will always have power giving you the opportunity to keep in touch with them and they with you in case they needed you.
I hope this post has help you to get a better perspective on solar backpacks. I just showcased a few here. If you want to see more click this link.
