I remember when I first saw a 1 terabyte external hard drive. I thought wow, this is really fantastic. We have finally made the jump from gigabytes to terabytes, there is no limit to what can be saved or done now.
I mean you can save whole feature length movies. Heck you can make a your own feature length movie right at home. What a great time we live in.
But the sizes didn't stop at 1TB they got bigger and bigger. I have a 1TB external drive and I don't even have half of it filled after two or three years. I can't imagine how long it would take me to fill a 2TB or a 3TB hard drive.
The hard drive has been around since the 1950s. They have a longer history then I thought. You can learn more about that history here.
In this post I'm going to take a look at a couple of what is considered the best companies for 1TB external hard drives and I will show you the best they have to offer.

If you're in hurry and just want to look at some hard drives, here is a link to some of the best selling 1TB external drives on Amazon.
WD My Passport 1TB Portable External Hard Drive
WD is what Western Digital is now going by. They have been in the hard drive business for a lot years and have been considered one of the best for most of them.
The My Passport Ultra series is their newest entry into the external hard drive game and folks seem to really like them.
By all accounts this is a faster drive than their previous series. It supports USB 3.0 for faster transfers.
These are small light weight units that may not look like it, but packs a lot of power. These drives can fit right into your pocket or purse.
And as if the 1 terabyte of drive space wasn't enough the Ultras also offer cloud backup.
Below are some of the best selling WD My Passport drives.

Seagate Backup Plus 1Terabyte External Hard Drive
Seagate is another hard drive company that's been around for quite awhile and just like Western Digital they have been considered one of the best.
Their newest series of external hard drives is the Backup Plus. I have their previous series, which was the FreeAgent Goflex. I've had it for a few years now and haven't had any trouble with it.
It has USB 3.0, but you have to do something to take advantage of it and I just haven't taken the time to do it. Besides the 2.0 right now is fast enough for me.
Anyway, back to the Backup Plus. This portable drive has a bunch of great features, but the one I find most interesting is it gives you the ability to upload multiple files to social networks all at once. You just choose the files you want to upload and where you want to post them. You can even add comments.
Another cool thing you can do is use the drive interchangeably between Mac and PC computers without reformatting the drive by downloading and installing the HFS+ Windows driver.
